Too Laid Back?
I have always been pretty easy going. I like most people. I don't care about your colour, age, sex etc. you are a good person or a bad person. I never really thought too much about Canada's future. We are a great place to live and I always thought we would be. Till recently. Now I am begining to question where we are going. I am thinking that our immigration policies are too lax. What started me thinking about it was when my yougest was up for suspension from school because he wasn't vaccinated. (He had a deathly fear of needles and had managed to keep the warning notices from us) A short time later there was an epidemic of German Measles (Rubella) in our area. It seems that certain groups are exempt from vaccinations. Our friends sister walked around town while she had the disease, while she was pregnant!, and scoffed at those who told her to stay home. Not only didn't she care about her own unborn child, but she purposefully put others at risk. Should people be allowed to immigrate to Canada when they won't be vaccinated for religious reasons? How can we stop major diseases when we harbour reservoirs of these diseases in our community? Polio, TB, whooping cough and other major diseases will always be lurking waiting to strike especially when our immunity wanes.
Should we also ask whether or not you believe in the seperation of church and state? If you don't and you do not accept this seperation and believe in tolerance for other religions then sorry we don't want you. You will not fit in to our society. We also don't want you if you are going to come here and finance violence in your former homeland. There was interesting article that said with our low birthrate our country and way of life is doomed. As we realize that we are no longer sustainable as a culture we will not stand up for our rights, because, hey we are going to die out anyway so why fight too hard for something that is going to disappear. We might as well just lay back and enjoy the remainder of our life. Would it be wrong to ask those that want to come here to renounce violence, to accept vaccinations (unless for medical reasons), to be tolerant of other religions and to believe in the seperation of church and state.

You raise some really good points here. The Canadian demographic is definitely shifting. As an observation (and I intend this comment to be strictly an observation and is in no way intended to support, validate or promote a racist point of view) I beleive that the days of the white European empire to be in its twilight. Per capita, whites are having the fewer children and are inter-marrying (which I think is totally cool) in contrast to mass immigrations to the West by people from Asia who are also having larger families. This is only natural as no particular empire can last forever, and this is a natural cycle of societies, particularly in the global village which seems to be ever shrinking. Inevitably this will lead to a change in social values (but improve on European cusine!). The end result will be the rise of the next (Asian if I were a betting man) empire. Look how Asian cusine and Eastern religions are becomming more and more common over here. I'm a white guy of predominantly German descent who is also a practising Buddhist and whose diet consits more of tofu and rice than steak and potatoes. I love Irish and Spanish music, am into Martial Arts - not sounding very Germanic, eh?!
So are you too laid back? I think no. Life is a constant of change and we shouldn't fear this. Perhaps there will be a day when the remaining white folks become slaves, but even if that unlikely eventuality came to pass, that would not be an eternal bondage any more than other dark points in history. So, be tolerant and take a stand for those things that you believe in!
Thanks for the tip on "The Waste Makers". I haven't read it, but have it requested from the library.
"Futureland" by Walter Mosley is very interesting in this light of race relations. The enslavement by everyone through corporate ownership, coupled with indentured servitude post 'health'care system, where you can sell your future work life in order to take care of your parents' needs, or sell body parts for cash. Genetic engineering of race-based diseases backfiring on those who don't realize how deep the mix already is.
Got "The Waste Makers" today. Depressing.
I thought the real problem with our world was that people didn't know what they were doing. It is obvious that in 1960, they knew EXACTLY where we were going: To Waste Management, Inc., via Chapter 16: "Profit Through Proliferation of People".
What came first, the Idiot or the Idiot Box? After seeing this book, the answer is: "The idiot box was purposefully implemented to create consumption of SWDN (stuff we don't need)".
Maybe we should stop being so Human-centric, and realize that disease is just a tool mother nature uses to keep our populations in check.
Before the industrial revolution and the advent of antibiotics, nature kept our numbers in the millions, for all of history.
Now, we have used our science and our laws to circumvent the natural balance.
And we talk like thats a good thing?
Whats going to happen when we go from 6 billion people, to 14 billion?
Will imigration laws and vacinations offer a solution to our problems then?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dinner is at 2.
Could you bring the wine?
